Northern College is seeking a Shop Technician in our Trades department. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as a team, have clear verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills and time-management skill.

Reporting to the Dean, Mining, Technology, Trades and Apprenticeships, the successful candidate will provide highly specialized technical support to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the Trades facility.
What you will be doing:
- Install, diagnose, test, calibrate, repair, verify and maintain complex automotive, heavy-duty, millwright and electrical equipment, tools, devices, facilities and trainers;
- Modify or improve the operation of equipment including routine checks on hoists, crane, and other shop equipment. Maintain a logbook of maintenance completed on equipment;
- Provide support in establishing and maintaining a Safety Plan for the Trades facility;
- Set-up of labs for faculty as requested, including moving college vehicles in and out of the shop, storage shed and enclosed compound;
- Maintain a Maintenance Management System to assure that all preventative maintenance, certifications, verifications, etc. are done on all tools and equipment as required; and
- Research, analyze, obtain budgetary quotation, and recommend capital equipment purchases for the Trades facility.

What you will need to be considered:
- Journeyperson in one or more of the following fields: Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive Service Technician, Welding, Millwright or other related/relevant trade certifications;
- Minimum three (3) years of related trade experience; and
- Forklift certification required or have the ability to obtain.
