Summary
Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the Distribution Operator is responsible for ensuring that residents maintain all lift station functions accordingly with federal, provincial / territorial and municipal legislation, policies and standards. Responsibilities will be to monitor all lift stations and maintenance requirements needed, flush the whole distribution system biannual requirements, flush the sewer system annually, winterize all fire hydrants, repair hydrants, degrease lift stations biannually, monitor St, Anne’s lake during winter, maintain all mechanical components and vehicles, monitor lagoon and discharge biannually, must follow confined space protocols, repair water and sewer service leaks, repair water main breaks, monitor all manholes after grading is done, repair curb stops if damaged, isolate a water leak from frozen pipes and document incidents right away,
The maintaining of all infrastructure is vital to the safety and health of the community. Failure to provide adequate services will jeopardize the health of the community. Failure to meet federal, provincial / territorial and municipal legislation and water quality standards will significantly jeopardize the health and well-being of residents and may result in liability for the municipality.

Job Duties
· Maintain the distribution systems in order to ensure the availability to ensure the community is functioning properly
· All distribution crew must be monitored until all crew obtain certification
· Maintain water and sewer systems
· Maintain and operate all lift stations and lagoon processes
· Inspect, service and repair components for the lift stations including hydrants, manholes, isolation valves, curb stops and lagoon.
· Ensure an adequate operation to all lift stations and hydrants.
· Prepare work orders for servicing and repairs
· Arrange for major repairs
· Inspect the distribution systems on a daily basis to ensure effective operations
· Maintain the all infrastructure and mobile equipment
· Conduct regular inspections of the lift stations and the distribution system
· Establish a preventative maintenance program
· Conduct inspections of mechanical, generators, and other building components and systems
· Maintain equipment including vehicles
· Make arrangements for major repairs to all components.
· Maintain the general administration of the Water/Sewer system in order to ensure effective operations
· Prepare budgets and financial reports for the water/sewer system
· Assist with capital planning
· Establish preventative maintenance schedules
· Administer water and sewer distribution contracts
· Keep a daily log
· Track data using computer programs
· Prepare activity and work order reports
· Recommend the purchase of goods and equipment
· Maintain inventories
· Provide reports to supervisors, managers and leadership.
· Ensure records are maintained

· Requirements
· Prepared to apply the best, up-to-date technology in an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective way to benefit society's evolving needs;
· Knowledge of modern water and wastewater treatment principles, practices, methods and procedures.
· Knowledge of materials and equipment used in a full range of water and wastewater treatment operations, maintenance and repair activities.
· Knowledge of methods and precautions in storing and handling a variety of chemicals.
· Knowledge of elements of construction technology as they relate to water and wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment construction, maintenance and repair activities.
· Knowledge of methods and precautions in storing and handling a variety of chemicals.
· Knowledge of functions and purposes of water / wastewater treatment systems.
· Ability to operate and maintain a variety of water and wastewater treatment plant equipment.
· Perform and interpret standardized process control tests and adjust plant equipment and process appropriately.

· High School Diploma or equivalency
· Full Ontario “G Driver’s Licence
· Work Conditions
· Work in wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment plant environments
· Some exposure to water, chemicals, hazardous materials, and noise
· Heavy lifting / moving, walking, standing, and climbing will be required routinely.
· May be required to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in inclement weather conditions.
· Work both indoors and outdoors
· May encounter various elemental conditions, e.g. rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.
· Associated risks involved with field specimen and sample collection
· May be required to wear personal protective equipment, e.g. Safety boots, etc.
· Manual dexterity required to operate and calibrate field equipment, tools, and computer peripherals
· May be required to perform repetitive heavy lifting up to 50 pounds
· Travel will be required
